Op-Ed - The Ricky Fighters Report

11/17/05

How Stable is the US Dollar?

Some experts argue that the US Dollar is due for a decline due as foreign governments are starting to reduce their Dollar denominated reserves.

Ricky: It's an undeniable fact that the United States has been running up huge trade deficits. At some point, we're going to have to pay for this behavior, and I believe it will happen with a large scale devaluation of the US Dollar.

Ultramachine: That is total bull Ricky and you know it. Let me give everyone the bottom line: invest in the dollar.

Ricky: Well, there's nothing wrong with currency traders taking positions on the dollar, but Ultramachine it is somewhat cavalier to suggest that the average person invest in currencies. The currency market is very complex and the average.......

Ultramachine: Here we go again. I go out and uncover yet another golden investment opportunity and you try to undercut my position because you're jealous.

Ricky: No, that's not true, Ultramachine.

Ultramachine: Yes it is. I saw you reading my investment notes yesterday when you thought I was asleep.

Ricky: Those weren't investment notes, they were crude drawings of pies.

Ultramachine: Don't try to change the subject. I'm going to get my message out regardless. Listen everyone, take as many leveraged positions in the US Dollar as you can afford. Mortgage your house if necessary. I'm predicting a huge upward move in the Dollar sometime in the next six months. Don't get left behind.

Ricky: Ultramachine, let's try to get back to the subject of discussing the Dollar and it's relation to the trade deficit.

Ultramachine: Blah blah blah. When I cash in on my Dollar positions you're going to be wishing you listened to me instead of those stupid graphs you're always working on.

Ricky: Those graphs are called economics. I just want to caution people that currency investment is especially risky for the uninformed investor. There are many complex factors which influence currency valuations.

Ultramachine: This isn't over Ricky.
